Using the complex world of microbes; the epic battles, the symbiotic communities, and the birth death cycles, as a stand in for all of nature Tarner encourages us to look closely  at the systems we may take for granted.  
Her playful sense of color and richly textured surfaces make this examination a joy on both the micro and macro level.
